As many of you know, our fellow employee, Joe Hood in Gardena, has been battling Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for quite some time and recently suffered a relapse. He desperately needs a bone marrow transplant and he has not been able to find a donor match within his family. We are reaching out to you and anyone you know who is willing and able to be tested for bone marrow matching and to sign up for the registry BE A MATCH.

The testing for a match is very simple – fill out a form and get a mouth swab. Ten minutes of your time is all it takes! To make a difference in this important struggle, not only for Joe, but many others in need, please contact one of the following:

Here is the link for those that want to join online and have a kit sent out: http://join.marrow.org/teamjoehood

If you want to join in person, you can check here: http://marrow.org/Join/Join_in_Person/Join_in_Person.aspx

Or call Jocelyn Valdez at 626.373.4000.

The person that is interested in joining the registry should know you are joining a national registry. You will be on the list until the age of 61. When you sign up, you are filling out a consent form (takes 5-10 min. to fill out) and given instructions to swab the inside of their cheek (1 min.). The whole process is 10-15 minutes.

Once they are done filling out the form and swabbing their cheek, the cheek cells are tested to see if they are a match for anyone on the registry searching including Joe.
